“We all believe we’d run into the burning building. But, until we feel that heat… we can never know.”
As the trailer opens, we are presented with the familiar camera work of the Batman trilogy and the booming musical score of Hans Zimmer. Then, surprisingly, the two introduced actors reverse-climb the building, Inception-style. This technique hasn’t truly been seen since the 2011 seminal release of that film. It was at this point I knew we were in for a treat.
The trailer continues and seems to lay the groundwork of a psychological thriller. The main actor appears to have entered a “life-after-death” state, à la Men in Black, The Matrix.. or even 6 Underground. What ensues is a story line where the stakes are the fate of the world; “something worse” than a nuclear holocaust (my guess is an AI takeover). The protagonist is challenged to see the world in increasingly novel ways in order to manifest into the hero he must become.
I am highly excited for this film. I consider Christopher Nolan to be the top modern director, and all of his works deliver on technical prowess and audience engagment. I’m sure I’ll be thinking about this film for the next 10 years.
**Special shout-out to my man Michael “Alfred” Caine for coming through on this film. Gotta love that Nolan clique.**
